The Definition of Computer Systems and Their Components

AdtechID -- Along with the development of the age computers are not only used for computational purposes or activities that require processing large amounts of data. But nowadays the function of computers is more than that. Starting from recording to being used as entertainment.

The Definition of Computer Systems and Their Components

The computer system also experienced tremendous development. Experts are constantly trying to develop and innovate computer systems so that their use can be adapted to the needs of today's times.

The following AdTechID has summarized the meaning of a computer system and the components of a computer.

What is a computer system?

A computer system is a set of integrated devices that can receive input, process it, provide output, and store data and information contained in it.

Computer systems allow users to be able to enter, manipulate, and store data. Examples of devices included in a computer system are the CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and various other optional components.

Computer system components All computers certainly require various hardware to support the work of computer systems.

Here are some components of a computer system.

Memory

Memory hardware is used to store data and programs. Based on the nature of storage, there are two types of memory, namely temporary (RAM) and permanent (ROM).

RAM is hardware that is usually found in gadget devices such as computers, smartphones, and laptops. As a temporary data storage area, RAM only works when the device is operating.

While ROM is a storage media that can only be accessed and read by users without being able to be modified.

Mass storage devices

In a computer system also has a mass storage device or an input-output device. This hardware, it allows users to permanently store large amounts of data in a computer.

Examples of these mass storage devices are hard disks, floppy disk drives, USB drives, CD drives, and DVD drives.

Input device

An input device is any device that can send data to a computer. This device serves to enter data from outside the system into the computer system.

Input devices work by transforming incoming data into information in the form of data or commands on a computer. In computer systems, input devices are classified into two groups, namely direct and indirect input devices.

The direct input device serves to enter data directly into the computer system without the need to wait for the operator to translate it first.

The advantage of this direct input device is that the risk of errors caused will be very small and the input time is relatively faster because it is without translation from the operator.

While indirect input devices are devices that work by entering data from outside the computer.

Where the data needs to be read manually first, thus making the risk of error quite high.

Examples of input devices in computers are keyboards, mice, joysticks, light pens, digital cameras, scanners, barcode readers, trackballs, speech recognition systems, and so on.

Output device An output device or output device is any device that can output information or data from a computer to another device.

The output device generates or displays the results of information that has been processed in the computer system.

The output resulting from computer processing is classified into four forms, namely letters, images, sounds, and videos.

Therefore, the output equipment that generates information can be read, seen, heard, and understood by the user.

Examples of output devices are screen displays, printers, monitors, plotters, video output systems, audio response systems, and so on.

Central Processing Unit (CPU)

The CPU is one of the most important pieces of hardware in a computer system. The reason is, the CPU is the heart of the computer itself. The CPU is responsible for executing incoming instructions.

The CPU receives data input, executes instructions, processes information, and produces corresponding results.
